This collection is that of the Dillon family from Campile in County Wexford, although the collection is largely constituted of previous generations linked to the Dillon family including the Phelans (Kilkenny) and the Lawlors (Kildare) and their family photographs. The collection spans throughout the entirety of the 20th century and illustrates both ordinary and extraordinary themes of everyday Irish life. Religion is a notable theme within this collection, and is in tandem with the family’s complex relationship with religion in its past and its turbulent transition from Protestantism to Catholicism in the late 19th century.
