Margaret (née O’Hagan) and George McKeown photographed beside the grave of Margaret’s father in Washington D.C. in 1982. It was Margaret’s long-time wish to see where her father was buried. He had left the family home in Desertmartin, County Derry when Margaret was very young and had never returned home again. Apparently he had been in contact with his wife or at least the family knew that he lived in Washington D.C.. He never returned to Ireland. The trip was very important to Margaret. It followed a traumatic year when her son Laurence had been on hunger strike for 70 days. Margaret died suddenly at home the following year, 1983 aged 61.
