Walter Nugent (went by name W. Nugent) came to work as a photographer for Lafayette in Dublin. He died in 1955, and this photograph was taken towards end of his lengthy career.
Nugent came to Ireland in c. 1901 to work for Lafayette studios in Dublin. He was a manager at Lafayette when he left in 1914 to take over a photographic company in Singapore. However his takeover didn’t materialise and so he set up his own studio, called ‘Buckeridge Studios’ in Singapore. His wife Maude joined him in 1922, and she died in Singapore in 1931 and was buried beside her son.
Nugent returned to Ireland in 1933 due to ill health. He intended to return to Singapore but due to ill health this never transpired. He was manager of Lafayette until the business closed.
